Why are you suffering from chronic pain?
Powell River Healthworks focuses on helping people with chronic pain, which has lately become almost epidemic. There are several possible reasons for such a large prevalence of pain. One of the most important is a lack of adequate exercise, combined with too much sitting and poor postural habits. Other major factors contributing to pain, as well as other chronic health complaints, are stress and poor diet.
Our bodies react to stress today just as our ancestors’ did in the face of danger, by pumping us full of chemicals that make it easier to react quickly with a burst of strength and energy. Unfortunately modern stressors turn on this “fight or flight” response frequently. When the chemicals released in our bodies are not used in a highly physical way, many systems begin to malfunction. The extra stress chemicals can lead to inflammation, insomnia, headaches, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure and other related problems.
What to expect:
We see our role as teachers, as well as therapists, helping people attain a pain free, healthy life. In the healing session we work together as a team to discover your pattern of imbalance, through the Chinese health evaluation process. As we discuss your health issues you will develop a better understanding of your own body and what you need to do to create greater health and wellbeing for yourself. We then develop a unique healing plan, designed specifically for you.
During an acupuncture session, Edward first carefully observes and palpates the muscles and meridians to determine the patterns of imbalance. Where are the muscles tight or weak? Which meridians are blocked, leading to tightness, weakness and chronic complaints? After a complete examination, he inserts needles to relieve the tight areas and allow energy to flow to the weak areas. This encourages the body to return to proper alignment, and rejuvenation.
Although needles used in acupuncture are very fine and the sensation during insertion is almost negligible, some people prefer to have acupressure. Finger pressure is applied to “acu-points” and the results and benefits are similar to acupuncture.
Many of our clients have found that making healthy lifestyle changes is almost effortless as the body begins its return to balance. Helping people rediscover wellness as they undertake the healing journey is our greatest reward in being in the healing profession.
